The Littles Go Exploring
Published in Hardcover by Scholastic (January, 1987)

You shouldn't miss it! ¡¥The Littles Go Exploring¡¦
Once I saw this book ¡¥The Littles Go Exploring¡¦,
written by John Peterson, the natural colour and the beautiful picture of the cover attract me to choose this book.
The story was said about some tiny people who went exploring to find an old man called Grandpa Little. He was a smart man who was the first little to understand electricity and had made the trip to explore the place, but unfortunately he is unsuccessful and lost his way.
After I read it,I think the most interesting part was the part about the Littles family found Grandpa Little.they tries to solve all theproblems when they went exploring.
I think the main character Tom and Lucy were the cleverest and bravest children in the family. They told their parents immediately when they discovered the secret room and they discuss with them.It shows that they were cooperative with the family members. Also, when UncleNick said that he needed two volunteers to go along,Tom answered that he could go very quickly.he didn¡¦t mind to lose his life tio find Grandpa Little. And Lucy, she was curious about everything and had her own decisions.Although she was very little, she provided a lot of opinions about the plan to find Grandpa Little. It shows that she was a wise girl and did all the things sensibly.
I really enjoy this book because of two reasons.First of all,I think the story is very interesting,it made me easily to put in it.Also,it is very meaningful, because it can tell us a lot of things about our life.I hope I can make myself clever, brave, confidentand mature like Tom and Lucy.I think this book is suitable for everyone,so I think you shouldn¡¦t miss it!

It is a book about little people.
I think this is a good book because it keeps you interested. This is probably the best book I ever read. Let me tell you what the book is about. The story is about old Grandpa Little who everyone thinks is dead except Granny Little until Tom and Lucy find a secret room with Grandpa Little's journal. And then the Littles go exploing to find out that Grandpa Little is not dead. This is a good book for any age and so are all The Littles books. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would.

Littles to the Rescue
Published in Hardcover by Peter Smith Pub (December, 1988)
Author: John Lawrence Peterson

Third Book in The Littles Series
In "The Littles to the Rescue", Mrs. Little is expecting her third child, and, by tradition, she wants Aunt Lily to deliver it. However, Aunt Lily and her son, Cousin Dinky, live four houses away, which is quite a distance for Tinies (little creatures--approximately 4 - 6 inches tall--that vaguely resemble elves with tails). Nevertheless, Cousin Dinky pilots his mother in his glider plane to the Littles' residence, even though it's in the middle of the night and snowing. However, during the trip, Aunt Lily falls out of the plane and is captured by the reclusive Ground Tinies. A search party is formed to locate Aunt Lily, with the added help of a cat and skunk, who remarkably don't make a meal out of the Littles. But will they find her in time?

This was one of my favorite books (and cartoon series) when I was a kid. It was given to me by my grandmother when I was about eight-years-old. Not only are the black-and-white illustrations terrific, but the Littles are extremely resourceful and imaginative in this story, using most things people throw away as tools, decorations, etc. My only two complaints are that the book has a rather abrupt ending (or perhaps there's a page missing from my book; I have had it for about 15 years), and that it's a bit ...., though younger readers may not pick up on this. Still, "The Littles to the Rescue" is a fun adventure story for children age 7 - 10. Highly recommended.

The Littles to the Rescue
I am 7 years old and in 2nd grade.I like to read about the Littles because they are always having fun adventures. This story was interesting when the Littles traveled by rabbits, a cat, and a skunk.I try to think how much fun and how fast I could go on these animals. I like how the Littles get help from animals. I thought Aunt Lily was not going to make it in time for the baby.
But with the help of everybody she was found.

Living Icons: Persons of Faith in the Eastern Church
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Notre Dame Pr (June, 2002)
Authors: Michael Plekon and Lawrence Cunningham
Average review score:

great introduction to Orthodox thinkers
Plekon has done a very good job in making available to american readers the lives and thoughts of several 20th century Eastern Orthodox theologians and "lovers of mankind". Each essay examines the main currents of thought for each person and their influnece upon the world in this century. Included are essays about St. Seraphim of Sarov, Sergius Bulgakov, MAria Skobtsova, Fr. Lev Gillet, Paul Evdokimov, Fr. Gregory Krug, Nicholas Afanasiev, Fr. Alexander Schmemann, Fr. Jean Meyendorff, and Fr. Alexander Men. With many first-hand accounts of their lives, the author gives keen insights into their personalities, the context of their actions and writings, and their continuing relevance for the 21st century.

I would also recommend "Light From The East" by Aidan Nichols for an intro to some other Orthodox thinkers. It is out of print, but available from time to time. Enjoy!

The lives of ten Eastern Orthodox Christian faithful
Living Icons: Persons Of Faith In The Eastern Church by ordained Orthodox priest Michael Plekon (Professor, Department of Sociology/Anthropology, religion and culture, Baruch College, City University of New York) is a close look at the lives of ten Eastern Orthodox Christian faithful, each of whom lived in the eighteenth through twentieth centuries. Fascinating, uplifting, and evenhanded in its study of characters, foibles, and faith, as well as highly recommended for students of Orthodox Christian History, Living Icons is a profound testimony to the path set by just a few among many amidst constantly changing and conflicting headwaters of religious belief worldwide.

The Loss of the S.S. Titanic: Its Story and Its Lessons
Published in Paperback by Houghton Mifflin Co (14 April, 2000)
Author: Lawrence Beesley
Average review score:

1st Hand, verbose account by intelligent witness.
Beesley, a schoolteacher and TITANIC 2nd class passenger, brilliantly recalls his experiences aboard the ill-fated ocean liner...and lucky for us, as his recounting of the disaster is especially well told with both accuracy and emotion. A must-have addition to your TITANIC library.

a true account
This is a tale told by a survivor of the S.S. Titanic. It was published just after the Titanic's sinking in 1912. Insisde are the authors true account of the disaster with six real photos of the vessels journey. The story will give you goosebumps down your spine and allow you to expierience the tragedy yourself. This book cannot begin to compare to the other stories of the Titanic. It's power comes from a first hand account that provides more information than a fact book can tell you.

The Loss Of the SS Titanic
A must for Titanic buffs who want a true insight into that tragic night.Beesley was one of the very few who did not get caught up in the media hype .

The Titanic's story through the writing of a survivor
Many survivors wrote their own accounts on the sinking of the Titanic, but most of them were accounts by prominant first class passengers. This man, Lawrence Beesley, was an ordinary school teacher from England travelling second class on the liner. His story: watching the Titanic sink from lifeboat number 13, is one that should not be passed up by any enthusiast.

The Man in the Mirror: William Marion Reedy and His Magazine

wm. marion reedy - a st. louis literary giant of the 20th ce
i am a grand, grand nephew of mr. reedy's! i have known of his lore and have long possessed the book reviewed here. it was written as a college thesis, i believe, by mr. putzel during his studies at washington u. here in st. louis.

i've long been amused by reedy's wit and daring, for st. louis was a very catholic, conservative town in the teens and twenties when his work flourished. fortunately for me, and unlike many irish families in town today, my entire family tree from its roots in clonmel, ireland to my grandparents here in st. louis have been carefully chronicled by the author.

as for reedy's contributions, carl sandburg and vachel lindsay (among others) apparently owed much of their introductory successes to reedy's "mirror", which was a literary journal of the day.

the security building in downtown st. louis continues to house businesses and professionals in its walls. at one time, my great, great uncle published his 20,000 subscriber journal for readers throughout the world. and what a life he lived outside of his office.

hope you enjoy!

A remarkable find!
It's hard to believe that a man who had such tremendous influence on American letters was all but forgotten before Max Putzel brought him back to life in this extraordinary biography. William Marion Reedy discovered and/or published many of the most important writers of his day, including Edgar Lee Masters, Vachel Lindsay, Carl Sandburg, Amy Lowell, Sara Teasdale, Theodore Dreiser and Zoe Akins. At the same time, he led a rough-and-tumble life in his native St. Louis, once even waking up after a night of hard drinking to discover he had married a local prostitute! Putzel's portrayal of Reedy in all his brilliance and decadence is one of those rare works of excellent scholarship that is also just plain fun to read. I recommend it with gusto!

Excellent guide on Sieve Analysis
Many users of sieves are not getting good results and they don't know it. In addition, the results from the sieve analysis are treated as being absolutely true when sieves are subject to menay sources of error. This book gives all of the dos and don't involved in performing a sieve analysis and in interpreting the results. Anyone using sieve analysis needs to study this book to make sure they understand how to get reasonable results and to make sure they don't assign more "truth" to the sieve analysis results than is deserved.

A little dry but...
A little dry but that is the nature of the beast isn't it? Great book on a subject that has very little information available. You need this book if you are working with particle size in any way.

Medals and Missions: The Medals and Ribbons of the United Nations
Published in Hardcover by Medals of America Press (July, 1998)
Author: Lawrence H. Borts
Average review score:

Comprehensive Guide to United Nations Medals
Amongst the many things I can say about this book, it is exciting material stating the exact nature of the United Nations Orders and Medals from one of the world's most renowned figures in the industry. Its uncanny accuracy is unprecedented.

Sets the standard on the subject.
The peacekeeping operations of the United Nations have grown in number and importance in recent years, producing a thicket of bewildering acronyms (UNIKOM and UNIPOM, UNOMUR and UNAMIR),and for participants a corresponding number of awards, which are often confusingly similar in appearance. For the first time this is all sorted out, in this well-produced guide.
The book features excellent color illustrations of the medals, ribbons, and insignia, with information on the historical context, mandate (mission), participant countries and strengths, fatalities incurred, and number of medals issued. There is also a chronology, a world map of operations, a splendid section on Korean War medals and variants, background essays, bibliography, index, and more, providing comprehensive coverage of this relatively neglected area. Borts' admirable work will likely be the standard on the subject for many years to come, and will be of particular interest to students of contemporary military affairs as well as collectors.

The Meditation Plan
Published in Paperback by Piatkus Books (September, 2000)
Author: Richard Lawrence
Average review score:

The benefits of meditation are many and varied.....
It is unusual to find a book on meditation which is of any real substance at all. Many are just airy-fairy in their approach and do not give out much in the way of practical guidance. This one is exceptional because it is packed full of practical exercises in concentration and visualisation - the true basis of all forms of meditation.
If you want to improve your mental abilities in all ways possible, then this practical handbook is all you need to set you firmly on the road towards limitless expansion of the mind. You'll be surprised what you can achieve with just a little applied self discipline and the encouragement of The Meditation Plan.

A great meditation book for all levels
This book is ideal for the beginer and, like myself, someone who has used meditation for years. I found it had lots to offer from basic relaxation to advanced mind excercises. I have gained much from The Meditation Plan and the more I practice, the more I can learn. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has the slightest interest in meditation. I have read many books and I believe it will be hard to find better than The Meditation Plan.
